I really enjoy performance art and have a special love for comedy, clowning and circus. I have some basic yet solid circus skills myself: walking on hands, unicycling (while playing the ukulele) and juggling. Mask work is often part of the inspiration. I have done numerous solo shows and plan to continue expanding my repertoire of characters. I like to think of my performances as raw – allowing for spontaneity, and sometimes, pure chaos.
Clay Head Show
This was a performance that originated as part of an art college experiment and has since become a show that has toured many festivals across Europe. The show consists of me putting a 20kg lump of clay on my head and morphing from one fantastical character to another, without being able to see what I am doing. The show has been described as a unique and memorable performance.
Ballheads in Barcelona, 2013
Originating in Barcelona using a decor of cardboard globes that I made for the ”Festival de Gracia”. The globes are used by ten suited performers – wearing them as balls on their heads while interacting with the audience. The Ballheads play a surreal ”follow the leader” game which is a delightful yet strange happening.
Rubbish Performance, 2005
This is an interactive performance where participants wrap eachother up in rubbish and then play on the street. The performance questions, in a fun way, the throwaway society we live in.
Clowning & Cabaret
In performance, I am especially interested in clown and mask work- and have a few solid circus skills including unicycling, juggling and walking on hands. I have done several one-man shows, introducing various ridiculous characters. Humour is a big part of my life and my art.
One of my favourite characters is Betty Dykes, inspired by my great-aunt Pete, who was a larger than life. Betty Dykes likewise is lovely, free, ready and available.
